When shopping for skin care products, some women are often
confused between a moisturizer and a hydrator. In the past, what I did was to
stick with what I am familiar with – the moisturizer. Now, I wonder if I did
the right thing.
Here are some information about hydrators and moisturizers
to help you pick the right product for your skin:
Moisturizers
Moisturizers keep the skin smooth and soft. These products
prevent water from leaving the skin in two ways:
1.
By trapping moisture into the skin through an
oil-based substance, which is similar to what sebaceous glands – maintain a
good level of natural oil or sebum.
2.
By attracting moisture into the skin using hydrophilic
substances.
Products that trap moisture into the skin often use substances
such as lanolin, petroleum, and mineral oil. Those that attract moisture have
certain vitamins, lactic acid, and glycerin as parts of its ingredients.
If you have oily skin, don’t be too quick in thinking that
you need to use moisturizer. There are instances when an oily skin is a result
of dehydration. The over-production of natural oil is your skin’s way of
counteracting the problem. A moisturizer may only be a temporary solution to
your condition. If you have chronically dry, dehydrated skin, you need to solve
your skin’s underlying problem.
Hydrators
Hydrators, such as Beaute
MD Aging Solution Hydrator, keep the skin healthy, supple, and plump by increasing
and replenishing lost fluids into the skin. Compared to moisturizing products,
hydrators have higher water content, which is perfect for dry, dehydrated skin.
For combination skin, where some areas are dry and some are oily, you will
benefit more from hydrators, as you won’t be adding unnecessary oil into your
skin and will be providing your skin with enough water to correct the
dehydration.
Proper skin care means understanding what your skin needs. Before
buying a moisturizer or a hydrator, take time to assess your skin to make sure
you’re getting the right product.
